IMELDA MAY

ADDITIONAL UK TOUR DATES ADDED DUE TO DEMAND

INCLUDING ROYAL ALBERT HALL ON NOVEMBER 22

Irish superstar singer and songwriter Imelda May has announced three additional UK tour dates due to phenomenal public demand. The new November dates include a headline show at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, where Imelda supported The Who in April in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

“I’m so delighted to perform at The Royal Albert Hall again,” says Imelda. “It really is a very special place. You can feel the history in the walls and the excitement in the air. The beauty of it takes my breath away. And I’ve got the best view in the house! I hope to see you there.”

Last week Imelda ended her UK & Eire tour with three sold-out shows at Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre, which followed a triumphant sold-out gig at London Palladium (“May’s wild side was worth the wait, though her mature reinvention was the evening’s real triumph” said Evening Standard in their 4* review).

Imelda’s new single ‘Girl I Used To Be’ is released 30th June on Decca Records. The track is taken from her Top 5 new album ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ and follows the BBC Radio 2 playlisted previous singles ‘Call Me’, ‘Black Tears’ and ‘Should’ve Been You’. A hauntingly beautiful acoustic ballad, ‘Girl I Used To Be’ (listen on Spotify) is a memoir of Imelda’s life growing up in the Liberties area of Dublin, and the lessons learned she will pass on to her daughter.

“I love those old story songs where you’re taken on a journey from beginning to end,” says Imelda of the track. “Songs you’re riveted with. Like when you’re in the car and you sit in the driveway, because you can’t turn the radio off, you have to listen to the end of the story. I thought, ‘I’d like to write one of them’. The lyrics are about my family, and my daughter, and myself and my life growing up in Dublin. We didn’t have much money but my parents are fabulous, creative and open-minded people. They gave me art and literature and encouraged me to do whatever was in my heart and I want to do that with my daughter.”

On release ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ topped the UK Americana chart and landed No.5 in the official UK album chart (her second UK top 5), ahead of artists including Texas and Drake with her strongest first sales week ever in the UK. One of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2017, the album spent over a month in the Top 20 and recently returned to the Top 10. Imelda has promoted the new album with performances on BBC1’s The One Show and The Graham Norton Show, and tomorrow she will be performing on ITV’s Tonight At The London Palladium. She also appeared on Chris Evans BBC Radio 2 show, where she performed a brilliant cover of U2’s ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I Was Looking For’, and recently joined The Guardian for a webchat.

Produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett, ‘Life. Love. Flesh. Blood’ was recorded over seven days in Los Angeles and features musical contributions from Jeff Beck (on ‘Black Tears’), Jools Holland (on ‘When It’s My Time’) and an accomplished group of backing musicians including the core trio of guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss) and bassist Zach Dawes (The Last Shadow Puppets, Mini Mansions).

Imelda May has become one of Ireland’s most celebrated female artists. Discovered by Jools Holland, who asked Imelda to support him on tour, Imelda has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed, Bono and Smokey Robinson and can count high profile artists including Bob Dylan (who recently revealed he is a fan of Imelda in a rare interview with Bill Flanagan) and Bono amongst her fans.

Imelda heads to the US and Canada later this month, including three dates as support for Elvis Costello – full dates below. For more information please visit: https://imeldamay.co.uk/tour/

Thursday 15 September, London/Nashville – Fast rising Americana stars, L.A rock n roll-blue grass group The Americans will help shine a light on UK Americana when they perform at the fourth annual UK Americana day party: the Bootleg BBQ, hosted in Nashville during AmericanaFest the world’s biggest celebration of Americana music. Also joining the lineup are Michigan indie folk stars Frontier Ruckus.

The internationally recognized industry networking and music event will be hosted at cool east Nashville record store, The Groove on Saturday 24 September – featuring the best British Americana acts performing at the festival this year including Teddy Thompson & Kelly Jones and festival hot tip, Yola Carter. The event will be hosted by Baylen Leonard – BBC Radio 2 broadcaster and presenter and US country music expert.

The Americans stated: “Some of the best American music comes from the UK. We’re glad to hear the latest wave of bands reinventing American music from across the pond.”

The event is curated by international music showcase producer British Underground in partnership with the Americana Music Association and is an opportunity for industry delegates and Americana fans to catch the UK‘s best musicians influenced by Americana. British Underground CEO Crispin Parry stated “It is fantastic to see two formidable US acts like The Americans and Frontier Ruckus top out the programme at the Bootleg BBQ alongside our incredible British Americana acts. UK acts now command a genuine audience of fans and industry taste-makers in the heart of the Nashville music scene and it is a privilege to host this micro-festival of predominantly British talent introducing our finest acts to the US music market. The BBQ also has a history of spotting great American talent on the verge of stardom. We hosted Sturgill Simpson’s breakthrough Americanafest performance where he signed his UK deal and his career went interstellar and I’m tipping The Americans for that slot next.”

With the BBQ’s roots in Austin’s South by South West, the Bootleg BBQ moved to its current home at The Groove record store in East Nashville in 2013. Produced in association with the AMA UK, it has since become one of the most significant events at AmericanaFest and is a chance to catch the best UK acts performing at the festival – the event has played a pivotal role in launching the careers of high profile musicians and champions UK Americana on the international stage. The event celebrates a landmark year in UK Americana, which saw the introduction of an Americana chart within the UK Official Album Chart, further highlighting the significance of the genre and it’s increasing impact on the UK. British Underground in partnership with AMA UK will also host an ‘Americana in the UK’ industry panel on Friday 23 September at 4 pm in Ballroom One, featuring contributions from some of the leading figures in the UK Americana industry discussing the UK Americana scene and advising US artists who are keen to play in the UK.

Danna Strong Director of Operations at the Americana Music Association stated, “British Underground’s Bootleg BBQ has become one of the most important international events at AmericanaFest, a key networking space for US music industry and artists to connect with UK delegates and it plays a huge role spotlighting UK Americana and the fantastic musical talent coming out of the UK at the moment. Don’t miss it!”

The Bootleg BBQ will follow a series of high profile international showcases hosted by British Underground this year, including a triumphant UK music showcase at the Rio Olympics, which saw Elf Kid and Nadia Rose perform for Team GB at British House in Rio. British Underground also play a key role in facilitating The International Showcase Fund, which is funded by key cultural institutions including Arts Council England, PRS For Music Foundation and British Underground which this year has funded BBQ acts, William The Conqueror, Yola Carter and Robert Vincent. The Fund offers vital support for artists and bands based in England who have been invited to play an international showcasing festival or conference.

UK Country superstar duo THE SHIRES to perform at 2015 BBC Music Awards

image007

Album chart dominating British country superstars The Shires (Crissie Rhodes and Ben Earle) today announced they will join acts including: Rod Steward, James Bay, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix, Hozier, Jess Glynne and One Direction performing at this year’s 2015 BBC Music Awards, which will be hosted by Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton and take place on Thursday 10 December.
The Shires, who are currently on tour in the U.S with fellow country band Little Big Town, stated: “It is an honour to be asked to perform at this year’s BBC Music Awards. The BBC have been amazing this year, backing us at every opportunity, especially at Radio 2 who have played our music extensively! What a way to finish the year. It’s been awesome and we are so grateful to our fans who have made it all possible.”
The Shires BBC Music Award performance will top off a incredible year for the Brit Country superstars whose chart debut Brave rocketed into the top 10 on its release earlier this year, making them the first ever British country band to land a top 10 record in the UK and one of the biggest break through acts of 2015.

A whirlwind summer schedule followed, with triumphant performances at events and venues from Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight and London’s Hyde Park to the home of country, Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. The Shires brought 2015 to a close with a much anticipated headline tour, which included a performance at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire, mere months after supporting at act at the same venue and a triumphant hat-trick win at the British Country Music Awards, claiming awards including: ‘Entertainer of the year’, ‘Best Album’, and ‘Best Male Vocalist Of The Year’

With an arena support tour confirmed with the Corrs in January and no doubt plans underway for album number two, it is safe to assume that 2016 will be soundtracked by the Shires.
